Science & Cycling is a innovative company, specialized in monitoring cycling performance to improve existing training programs, monitor the accumulation of fatigue, peaking at the right time and at improve your overall cycling performance. Science & Cycling only uses scientific validated tests and principles to monitor and improve cycling performance. One of the main monitoring tool used by Science Cycling is the LSCT, a submaximal cycle test, developed by Prof. Dr. Robert Lamberts at the University of Cape Town.

 

Although the design of the LSCT is published in one the leading scientific sports medical journals in the world (British Journal of Sports Medicine (2011) and the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance (2014)), the correct interpretation of the LSCT is more complex than analyzing the described three variables (power, rating of perceived exertion and heart rate recovery).

Based on the clinical experience of Prof. Dr. Lamberts,  the use of multiple weighed performance parameters (> 6) and the correction for environmental factors (temperature and humidity) on the LSCT, Science Cycling is able to monitor small meaningful differences in elite (professional) cyclists. A recent article in the International Journal of Sport Physiology and Performance (Lamberts, 2014) shows that a new multivariate calculation method accurately predicts PPO, VO2max and 40km TT time in trained to elite male and female cyclists (n=102). In another scientific paper, Capostagno et al. (2014) shows how the LSCT can be used to prescribe training, resulting in better training improvements than a standardized training program.
